We haven't been getting the heat here. Things seem to be hovering around 24C in the daytime.

Still waiting for those stubborn SNP's from Batch 147.

We are inching our way to a thousand posts.

I wonder when we will hear about those two stubborn SNPs, M37 and P66.

I just got an email telling me my sample for the S-series test has successfully arrived at the lab in London.

Now I am waiting for those results, as well.

I'm also waiting for my 67-marker upgrade from Batch 160.

24C is not bad at all. I wish it were that cool here!

I drank about a half gallon (about 2 liters) of iced tea on the way home from Pennsylvania today. I was replacing some of the liquid I've lost the last couple of days.

Batch 147 - Onward and Upward!

I saw a post on the Rootsweb DNA List that quoted an FTDNA email. That email said they finally have the test for P66 up and running. They are expecting to have some results to report in 3-4 weeks.

I guess M37 is still giving them fits. I don't think anyone who ordered a Deep SNP-R1b in the last 6 months has a result on either M37 or P66 yet.

Am I wrong?

Is there an exception out there who would like to speak up?

I'm not complaining, mind you. I got most of my SNP results very early (about a month ahead of schedule), so I am still very pleased with FTDNA's performance. I realize not everything in the world of dna testing is a walk in the park.

Besides, I don't figure I'll be positive for either of those SNPs (although you never can tell).

I'm waiting on M37 and P66 from Batch 155, a 67-marker upgrade from Batch 160, and now an S-series test, as well.

All that makes life kind of interesting.

I'm M153- and M160- and got those results early.

M37 and P66 are the only SNPs FTDNA tests for that I don't yet know about.

Another Batch 147 post.

We went crabbing today in the Chesapeake Bay down near Newport News, Virginia, my old stomping grounds.

Caught about 20 crabs.

I got pinched pretty hard by a couple of them as I was extricating them from the crab traps. I have some fairly extensive experience catching crabs, but even I screw up and get pinched now and then. The little buggers drew blood, too.

I got my revenge at home, though, when I dropped them into the pot of boiling water and Old Bay seafood seasoning.

Crabs and beer go very well together.

They put hair on your y-dna.

Had a lesson a few years back from a friend of the family who grew up down in Mathews Co., Va. on the Piankatank. Unlike what most people do...cook and clean as you pick. He chilled his crabs in ice water...puts them to sleep...and then one by one removes the upper carapace and flushes out the 'no eat'em' with a garden hose. He then boils 'em a usual. Definitely easier to pick and the Old Bay seasoning seems to flavor the meat better.

Are you a Poquoson boy? My paternal grandparents moved down there in the late 50's and lived there until my grandfather died a few years back and my grandmother moved next door to my aunt over in Newport News.

No, I'm a Navy brat and grew up everywhere. But I went to college in Newport News and used to live down there. Years ago I just happened on a good crabbing spot in Poquoson and used it quite a few times.

They've built all sorts of nice new homes down by the water in Poquoson and kind of ruined the place in some ways, but they also built that new pier, so you can still catch crabs there.

Hey! I picked up another 12-marker match today. That makes 10 now! I'm starting to feel like a regular R1b guy!

Of course, it's not there at 25 or 37, but what the heck?

67 markers are a lot to keep track of.

Does anyone know how having 67 markers has changed what is considered a good match?

If 35/37 was a good match before, what is it now, 63/67 or something like that?

However, my 37/37 match went from an 83.49% probability that a common ancestor was shared within the last 4 generations TO a 25.06% probability with a 64/67 match. So for me, the match is much less likely with the higher number of markers. (Also I read that the mutational rates have not been entirely determined for the 38-67 markers.) So, I don't know what would be a GOOD match other than 67/67. I wish FTDNA would post some more info on the 67 markers -

That seems strange. I must admit, sometimes this stuff is over my head.

Still No News on M37 or P66

I still have not heard anything on the SNPs M37 and P66.

Frankly, I'm not that worried about them. I think I mentioned this before, but M37 has, I believe, thus far been found only in Australians of European ancestry, and P66 has only been found in Italians.

I'm not an Australian, so I don't think I'll be M37+. If it turns out my deep ancestor was a Roman soldier (always a possibility), then P66 might be right.

Just the same, P66 doesn't seem likely either.

I would like to get the final word on all the SNPs for which FTDNA tests though.

Anyone else receive word on M37 and P66 yet?

I believe davis1946 got word on P66 but not M37.

Anyone get results on both of those?
