Went to the Washington, D.C. Zoo yesterday (for the umpteenth time!). Nice day, but hot and sweaty (quite normal for DC in July).
Saw some interesting wolves from Africa. They looked like big, overgrown red foxes. Cool. They are called "Maned Wolves," if I recall correctly. Neat looking beasts. They looked like they could rip your throat out in very short order.
I'd like to visit a zoo that specializes in North American animals, like grizzly bears, moose, bison, timber wolves, etc. Anyone heard of a zoo like that?
When I visited the Toronto Zoo, it was so hot the animals were all hiding and sleeping. The black squirrels were busy grabbing whatever the zoo visitors dropped, though.
I've been to the Toronto Zoo once when I lived there.
I have been busy with my own Zoo here.
We are trying to care for some neglected farm animals. One of the 2 sheep was matted with excretement and maggots. The poor thing would have died had we not found someone to shear it. Major skin irritation and open soars have to be bathed with hope of skin recovery. The animal may yet have to be put to sleep if it's skin cannot recover.
The other sheep is doing well with only a minor foot inection. The 3 Geese, 5 Hens and 2 Roosters are doing fine.

I'm still waiting on snp results...
Hope that sheep makes it. Sounds like you're doing good things up there.
I've only been to the Toronto Zoo once. It was nice, but like I said, it was a hot day, and the animals were all sleeping. I saw some of them, but they were sacked out in the shade. Some of them were hiding and could not be seen.
I do remember seeing a lot of black squirrels. We have some black squirrels in Virginia - I've seen them in Winchester - but they are relatively rare here. We have mostly the gray and reddish-brown kinds.
I think all of us R1b1c guys are still waiting on those two stubborn SNPs.
Will the old Batch 147 thread make it to 1,000 posts?
I don't know. It's certainly slowed down a lot in its old age.
My last two SNPs are late.
The first installment of my 67-marker upgrade is due August 21st.
Of course, neither of those things is in Batch 147.
I have my 67 stuff...though I never had any 37 marker matches.
i'm waiting on the 147 batch snp results.
We will hit a thousand for sure.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
We had the vet down again to help clean out the maggots in the sheeps skin.
You can't imagine how gross this is. Pouring peroxide on the soars to clean out the maggots. Yuk. The vet pokes his finger in the holes and feels how deep the soars are, and to clean out the maggots that hatched so far. another cleaning today as more hatch.
The sheep has responded with an apetite. It is starting to graze more. We have to also treat both sheep with a foot ailment.

That's good news, although I wished I had waited on the 67-marker upgrade and spent the money on the S-series instead. Now I'm looking around for stuff to sell to make a quick $129 to have the S-series done.

I'm waiting on M37 and P66, too, but from Batch 155.

I hope so. I have a soft spot in my head . . . er, heart . . . for the ol' Batch 147 thread.

That must stink, too. I can imagine.
I'm glad to hear that that sheep is showing signs of improvement.
I used to own three goats some years ago. They were fun. They would come when called by name, and they were very affectionate.
If I ever get back out into the country, I would like to get some goats again.
I have a collection of German beer steins that my youngest son covets. Maybe he'll be willing to pay $129 for the whole lot (except my favorite, which I'm keeping for placement in my coffin when I die ). They're worth much more than that.
I also have a WWII German bayonet in excellent condition that I picked up at a garage sale for $3.00. I've seen some in worse condition for sale for $65.00.

Are WWII bayonets so cheap? I would swear they are worth much more than $65!

I'm not sure, really. Mine is in really excellent condition, and I have the metal scabbard.
As I said, I picked it up for $3.00 at a garage sale. Although I didn't ask for details, I got the impression that the woman who sold it to me was going through a divorce and was trying to unload her husband's things that were still around.
BTW, I managed to scrape up the $129 without having to sell anything, not even my soul.
