Happy Independence Day!

We went over to Colonial Beach and did some crabbing. Not much luck. Too many boats, too many people. Next time I'm going over to St. Mary's County in Maryland, where I used to catch crabs when I was a little boy. I used to catch a lot of them when I lived down in Newport News (where I went to college, among other things), too.

My daughter had a great time. She got to use her Barbie fishing pole (it's pink), and we actually caught a little fish! We released it unharmed, although I have no scruples about eating them if they're big enough.

On the way home God provided a fireworks show of His own in the form of a pretty terrific thunderstorm.

You folks didn't think I would let a day go by without posting in the good ol' Batch 147 thread, did you?

My SNP test is in Batch 155. My target date is still July 17th, even though I got most of my SNPs way early (I'm still smiling about that).

Maybe I'm wrong, but I expect to be negative for both M37 and P66. It will be nice to find out for sure, though.

Steveo, how on earth did you get so knowledgable about each and every marker? I've been trying to figure this out for months. You answered my question about my brother's Deep SNPs and I'm absolutely amazed that you know and understand the significance of each specific haplogroup tests.
This is still a mystery to me. I'm just an average "girl".... I'm fairly literate, been to college, was a journalist for many years and thought I could get the jist of just about anything. But understanding all the results of the yDNA tests is simply beyond my comprehention. Is there anyone you know of who can maybe sit with me and explain the meaning of all the tests?
I don't know who the Alans are, nor do I know the Samartians.
I guess I'm a dolt. World history was not my best subject.
I know where my grandfather's "people" came from. I know that as far back any we all know they were Jewish, as we are now and have always been on both sides. I know they were from Ukraine/Poland/Russia. That's it.

To be fair, this chart from Family Tree DNA also explains each SNP in the deepSNP test for haplogroup G:

My uncle is also of Hg G and has ordered the deepSNP test; and he, too, is waiting for the P15 test to be re-run so that he can be sure he is G2 (as he is predicted to be). He is Gentile, the descendant of Catholic serfs in southern Poland, so for him the Alan-Sarmatian ancestry is a definite possibility.

On the other hand, the presence of Hg G among Jews may be a different story. I haven't looked into the matter extensively, but my impression is that the two major possible sources of G in the Jewish community are:

1) Ancient Middle Eastern. According to some studies, a significant percentage of Lebanese and Palestinians are of Hg G. This may indicate the presence of Hg G in the Middle East as far back as the Phoenicians/Canaanites.

2) Khazar. The ruling class of the medieval Khazar nation was Jewish, and after the fall of that state assimilated into the Eastern European Jewish population. But I haven't seen any definitive evidence that the Khazars were significantly Hg G.

What we need are full 37-marker haplotypes from each of the countries of the world, so that we can, for example, compare a 37-marker Gentile or Jewish European G against a North Ossetian (Alanian) or Palestinian G.
