We haven’t received these R1b results from the lab yet; they’re having a lot of difficulty with some of the SNPs in the panel and are trying to resolve at least a few of these before they send us the results. We’re hoping to receive the results this week.

I think there must be a lot of R1b tests going on. If one runs into an SNP problem with one's biggest customer base, that is going to mean delays.

As I pointed out once or twice before, over 70% of all YSEARCH entries are R1b.

A problem with R1b is a BIG problem!

I don't want to spend another $200-300 for Ethnoancestry's additional R1b SNPs. I may do it at a later date, who knows?

As I understand it, those SNPs have not been confirmed by the scientific community in any published research papers, and they're not likely to be, as long as EA keeps them a private, cash-generating secret.

Who can verify the claims being made about them under present conditions?

I guess I'll probably wait for FTDNA to test for more downstream R1b-SNPs. They seem to be more conservative than EA, perhaps a bit plodding, but one is sure of what he is getting.

I'm a patient man and can wait til FTDNA fixes the R1b1 deep clade testing.....still waiting here for the re-test that was due 01 May...

They've been good to me thus far, so I have a certain feeling of loyalty.

I think perhaps we should email FTDNA and politely request more downstream R1b-SNPs.

After all, there are a whole lot of us R1bs. If a bunch of us knock, chances are the door will open.

They do. After the one time set up fee ($85) and extraction ($49), the first SNP is $36. Additional SNP's, even months or years down the road are $40 each.

I got the above info, which is under 'Custom Select SNPs', off their web site.

Unless FTDNA adds some of the additional SNPs relevant to us Hap Grp I folks, if I were to test, I'd probably go with Ethnoancestry. FTDNA made a great business decision in offering a good number of the known SNPs relevant to the R1 folks who are in the majority of people doing DNA testing. I'd just like to see a few more of the known SNPs relevant to I1a.

I only know they had to re-run it all because they had some problems.

P66 is a very misterious SNP. There's no literature nor speculations either about it and until now it was found only in two Italian samples.
