c'mon 147
Could that unreliable P25 be responsible for some of the Deep SNP-R1b delays?

That email RScott got back in early May said 23 guys were positive for M343 but negative for P25. If that has occurred with even more men since then?
That means FTDNA has had to back up and test a bunch of guys for M269.
I can see how that might delay things quite a bit, depending on how many guys have had trouble at P25.
What if you are one of those P25- guys?

What if you are one of those P25- guys?[/QUOTE]
My cousins's DNA sample is one of those P25- guys. The Y Hap Backbone test was ordered in March because they could not predict the Haplogroup after doing the 37 marker test. The target date was April 19. After the test was late by a couple of weeks, I emailed FTDNA to find out the status of the test. That's when I learned that he was M343+ but P25- and that they would test him for M269. I am still awaiting the results. I will post them as soon as they are received. He is listed as R1b for now.Last edited by davis1946; 10 June 2006, 05:06 PM.

When you first posted about the P25- phenomenon, I was still awaiting the last twelve of my 37 markers. I read it and kind of filed it away in the corner of my mind. Yesterday I was involved in a discussion with DMac (an extremely intelligent guy, even if he is I1a!) about recent changes in nomenclature over on the R1b Got Messed Up thread, when your post popped back into my mind.
RScott followed your post by quoting from an FTDNA email stating that, as of May 3, 2006, 23 R1b men had come up P25- and would have to be retested for M269.
It occurred to me that if more men have experienced the same thing since then, that might, at least in part, account for the SNP delays.
Since over 70% of the entries in YSEARCH are R1b, I think it is safe to say that a problem with R1b SNP testing could be a real delay maker all the way around.

I'm kind of hoping FTDNA just tests me for M269 and skips P25, if I test positive for M343.
What happens if you test negative for M343?
Do they back up the list and test for M87?Last edited by Stevo; 11 June 2006, 11:12 AM.

If you do, let us know what you find out, will you?
This is fascinating to me.
If one is negative at M269, do they then test for M18 (R1b1a) or M73 (R1b1b) or M335 (R1b1d)?
I've got a lot to learn about my own haplogroup!

I suppose it won't hurt to send a small email.
I don't imagine i'd get a response today.
I'll let ya's know if anything comes of it.

I'm sure whatever response you get will be interesting.
It could clear things up quite a bit.
