  • Results confusing

I got my results last night on the way home from school, and they threw me for a loop. My Y12 results showed me a genetic distance of 1 from a family member with a common ancestor 8 generations back. Not too surprising. When I got my Y25 results last night, my relative was not listed as a match. When I looked at our page I got worried.
    On 464a,b,c,d he had 13,13,15,16
    I had 13,15,16,19
When I put our results into ysearch, we only showed genetic distance of 2. Then I read up on DYS 464. Apparently, the order of these things doesn't matter. So he and I match up on 1 of his 13's, his 15, and his 16. We differ by a 19 to a 13. There is a special rule for 464, that assumes that any difference, no matter how big, happened in 1 mutation. So we just increased our genetic distance by 1 with the upgrade.
Anyway, I must have read the page with this information in it 50 times without it sinking in before. So, batchmates, don't be a dummy like me and get too worried about the results before you check all the details.
I can't wait to see some haplogroups. Are there any J2 clanmembers out there?
Have a good day folks. I've got to get another test running either here or at another company. I don't know what I will do without checking my page 10 times a day.

I think I'm in the same car, near the caboose.

First test ever for me: Y-37.

(Which you all know by now.)

          That was helpful, Steve. Thanks.

          Can I "axe" you something?

Did you get email notification first, or did your results show up on your personal page first?

I know I've asked that question before, but I am wondering about Batch 147 specifically now.

          • Did you all realize that, as of this post of mine, there are 1,398 posts in the Batch Calendar Forum. Of those, nearly one third are in Batch 147!

            Yikes!

            It's been fun for me.

Now that the results for Batch 147 are beginning to trickle in, I wonder what will happen to our beloved Alma Mater.

I'm almost certain I will be ordering some more tests from FTDNA, and so will the rest of you. Those will all be in various new batches.

But Batch 147 will always hold a special place in my heart.

(It's enough to make you puke, ain't it?)

I think we should keep posting in this thread even after we all have our results.

Let's feed the monster and keep it going!

            Class of 147 Hoo-ahhhhhhhhhhh!

            • I caught the results on my page first

I was doing my standard run through ftdna. Check the page, check the batch 147 thread, go back to the ftdna homepage and look for a change in the number of results.
When I hit my page I tried to go to the tab for "pending results". It wasn't there. Hair stood on end and smoke came out of ears. I clicked on matches and didn't see my relative as a y25 match, and I started to get worried, as I said above. I'm AKYU2 on ysearch and mitosearch, if you want to see the numbers.
I've gotten results 3 times now from ftdna. I saw my webpage first twice and got email first once. I bet they have script that changes the page and sends the mail at almost the same instant. For my mtDNA results I got to my page before it stopped changing. I had to refresh a couple of times to get all the changes.
I wish DNAPrint was a hundred dollars cheaper I don't feel right not waiting for results somewhere.

              • I am still waiting. I just need the results of one itty bitty 12 marker test for one of our project members..

                • I continue to suspect that the influx of Genographic kits is exactly why all of our FTDNA results have been delayed.
...hehehe...just for that I will be calling my FTDNA inside source and tell him to make sure that the results for "Igmayka" get moved to the back of the batch!

I could very well make the reverse statement that if it were not for those meddling FTDNA kits being analyzed, my Genographic results would get here faster!

Besides...if we let you receive your results, you would stop posting on the "Batch 147 Thread" and we would all miss you too much...LOL!

My comment was not meant as a criticism of the Genographic Project. After all, the GP is the best advertising that the field of genetic genealogy could imagine.

What I meant was that FTDNA apparently did not expect or prepare for the sudden influx of GP participants after the article in the March 2006 issue of National Geographic. In other words, FTDNA may still be ramping up staff to handle the volume increase.

                      I think you're probably right.

                      Still no results for me.

Ah, well, as I continually tell myself, my target date is not until Friday (May 19). And it is more important to me to get an accurate result than an early one.

Igmayka, were the results of your first-ever test early, late, or right on time?

                      • Uhm...you were given a 19 MAY 2006 forecast...

You were given a 19 MAY 2006 probability for delivery. Is FTDNA late on that forecast?

                          Lost-Sheep -

Actually, I think Igmayka is still waiting on mtDNA results from an earlier batch that are, in fact, late.

He just visits the Batch 147 thread to shoot the bull from time to time.

I sure wish he'd quit teasing that bull and finally put it out of its misery. I need some steaks for the grill.

That sounds good: steaks on the grill, that is.

That's definitely a part of my summer plans.

                                Summer? It's year round here.

I first tested back in May 2004...mailed the kit May 4, 2004. We didn't have the fancy personal pages back then that would tell you your due date...that sounds like I was pregnant ...but you were told to expect results in 4-6 weeks. You actually didn't get a personal page until results were posted.

I got results for my initial 12 markers on June 10th and results for the next 13 markers came back on June 25th. I vaguely remember discussions on the Rootsweb DNA list concerning delays about that time.

I upgraded to 37 markers in July of 2005 but did not note how long it took for them to come back. We were more excited about getting results back for the Clan Chief and mine were more to satisfy curiosity since I didn't and don't have any close matches in the project. Just going by a sketchy memory, I don't remember it taking long at all.
