    Curious . . .

I guess the admin-type work of entering results and getting them to customers is time-consuming.

I know my kids are always bugging me about their grades while I'm trying to get them all into the computer.

Just give the kids your password. They promise not to change any grades.

        That was pretty good, too.

I'm picking up good material here.

My students are highly amused by such things. (So am I, really.)
You have to re-write duck one...i am not good at that language..i'm sure you can put it together properly.

        9 days till target date...

        • So I read somewhere in the threads that FTDNA doesn't do some snp numbers that another company does.

Will we need addition tests down the road for the additional snp numbers?

That is my question too. Someone claimed somewhere that FTDNA guarantees that when it introduces a new SNP for a given haplogroup, customers who have already paid for the deep-subclade test in that haplogroup will be tested for the new SNP at no extra charge.

Unfortunately, I cannot now find that alleged guarantee anywhere on FTDNA's site.

If I could get that guarantee, I would order a deep-subclade test right now.

            • yes i went from R1B to R1B1.that might not seem like anything..but it was another number to consider for me...for free

As far as other company's readings.. I don't know if Ftdna would be able to go back and check every one. That sounds like a company burden.

Maybe ftdna will come out with their own super-dooper snp positions leaving other companies far behind?...do ya think?

Batches close out every Wednesday. The next batch closing on 5/17 will be 153.

I was hoping my grandfather's Y-DNA would make it into 153, but he just got his kit and I doubt he'll get it in by this Wednesday. I guess the earliest I can hope for is 154. My brother's Y-DNA will probably be a week later, in batch 155. And I'm thinking about upgrading a cousin's Y-DNA to 59 markers, so maybe I should do that before Wednesday so I have tests in the next 3 batches

                • Lately life has been a Batch

it ain't gonna change for some time....YeeHaw!..batch 153..

I wonder if there is enough dna to do my test. i wonder if I exhausted my dna samples by all the tests I had done so far?

                  time will tell.

                  • Early Results Are Looking Less and Less Likely

So much for our dream of early results, eh?

I guess there's still time, since my target date is not until this coming Friday (May 19), and some others - like M.O'Connor - aren't due until May 22.

Batch 147 is a big one, I think, and there are a lot of deep clade tests and other things going on at FTDNA.

Time to hire some more help . . . maybe even to add a new wing onto the lab.

                    • Doesn't look like we'll get lucky with early results, does it? When batches do get early returns, it's about a week or so. Maybe our batch is extra large or has some difficult tests.

Didn't I hear also that there was some problem with mito DNA dilutions that were wrong and had to be redone? That may imply the lab is busy with other work and so our batch results will take a little more time.

I remember something like that... but didn't it have to do with the haplogroup assignment based on the probabilities of the marker results on the Y-DNA tests? If the haplotree changes, then your assignment changes but I don't believe they do free SNP testing just to verify this. I could be wrong though. Does anyone recall if FTDNA will do any free testing to verify the haplogroup prediction that comes with your Y-DNA results?

Free testing can happen when you challenge lab results. If the lab was in error, the verification is free. If the lab was originally correct, you're charged $50.

FTDNA is mainly concerned with STR testing anyways. They do offer SNP but only for the widely accepted SNP's. Other companies do test more SNP's but not a lot of research yet to go with the results.

It was the Y-DNA deep clade tests that had the dilution problem and had to be redone when they were first offered. That was a while back, so hopefully they're out of the woods on that by now.

I wonder if the lab doing so many different tests now (instead of just standard Y-DNA and mtDNA panels) will mean the end of "early" results being the norm and they'll now be the exception?

If they can't confidently predict your haplogroup, they'll do a free SNP test. The most likely cause for this is a rare haplotype that isn't already in FTDNA's database.

The way I understand FTDNA's Free SNP Test Offer is, when you order a Haplogroup confirmation test that does not come back positive, they will do additional test, gratis, until they find the correct Haplogroup. I'm not sure how they would/could test for for a Haplogroup that is not in their database.

                              • Groundbreaking Work on Alien Haplogroups

Tucson, Arizona - Family Tree DNA President Bennett Greenspan announced today that what looks like alien DNA has been discovered in Laboratory Batch #147, which was received at the genetic genealogical testing company's facility at the University of Arizona in Tucson on April 5.

"We have evidence that extra-terrestrials are living among us," Greenspan said.

The company is withholding release of the test results until the NSA, CIA, NASA, and the President have been fully apprised of FTDNA's findings.

Sources within the Pentagon have confirmed a rumor that a detachment of elite Delta Force commandos has been dispatched to Prince Edward Island in Canada in connection with Greenspan's news.
