I just got my y-12 results back sometime last night.
They were due 4/28, they arrived 4/12.
Family Tree seems to be on a good roll right now.

My results confirmed a paper trail back to the 1600's, so we're pretty excited.

Awesome! So it only took about a month for you to get the first 12 markers back?

    That's great.

Of course, that doesn't mean mine will come back as quickly.

On my Y-line the paper trail only goes back to my ggg-grandfather, who was born in 1804. The earth seems to have opened up and swallowed his mother and father and all traces of them.

That is one of the reasons I am doing this Y-DNA testing.

      Thanks for the valuable info!

I'll let you know when my y12 come in (batch 144). I also have a y12-y25 upgrade in with you folks.
Sometimes things go wrong in the processing and they have to start over again, and that can lead to long waits. I guess it's better to have them get it right than to have them report garbage.
As you can see, I too am impatiently waiting for results, and digging for any clues that might suggest that I'll hear back before 4/28, which is my scheduled date
Each of these tests will give you a guess at the nationality of only 1 of your ancestors, male for ydna tests and female for mtdna tests. Of course you have a lot more than 2 ancestors. You won't see anything from your mother's father or your father's mother, for instance. A quick web search should give you one of the companies that do the other kind of testing, the testing on autosomal chromosomes.
Many people that I have read about complain that the results about nationality mixtures are very vague. I think it may be difficult to figure out what 8% East Asian means, especially when a score below a certain level means that you don't have any ancestors from there. I don't know, I haven't had one I figure we're all African anyway if you go back far enough...

Hey thanks for your tidbits of advice. I am a little confused about the mtDNA testing I suppose. When I read about it, I thought that mtDNA records all of your ancestry on your mother's side. So I guess I have no luck in findng out about the ancestry of my mother's grandmother on her father's side, huh?

I like a lot of the features that FamilyTree DNA offers, it's just too bad that they don't break down your ancestry for you. That would help verify alot of the paper trail that people have created in their family trees.

I wonder if posting in this forum isn't just making my impatience worse.

I had originally promised myself that I wouldn't start checking my FTDNA personal page until two or three weeks had gone by. Now I find myself checking it a couple of times a day.

          Silly, isn't it?

I need to check Ebay and see if I can't get a life.

Pick up one for me if you find any extras.
I ordered my deepSNP-I test (batch 132) before Christmas, results due 2/1/06. I am still waiting "patiently".

                Lol.

                I'm probably incurable.

I wonder what will change once I get my results. Maybe nothing.

Then again, maybe I'll get a good match and find out some more about my father's line.

                  Ouch.

                  That's scary.

At least you know you're an I of some kind. I'd be happy to know that much right now.

Any clues as to what kind of an I you are? What's your guess?

                    Nice to see enthusiastic people.

I started with 12 numbers through the Genographic program.

Then I found family tree dna through a link in the project.

                    Then I up-graded to 25 numbers,

Then I upgraded to 37 numbers

Then i had my mtdna sequenced, HVR1 HVR2

(I've yet to refine to see if I belong to a subclade of H)

                    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

                    Now in batch 147

I am getting my snp test

and an up-grade to 59 numbers.

                    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Most of my test results were recieved a few days early And. I can say I have always recieved straight answers from familytreedna when I had questions.

FTDNA seems like a pretty professional outfit to me, too, and I looked into several of them when I first heard about DNA testing.

Thanks for the compliment about enthusiasm.

I'll be even more enthusiastic if my Y-DNA nets me some matches and some advances on my father's line.

I plan to eventually have my mtDNA tested, as well.

                        I hope I don't need to expand my Y-DNA test to 59 markers or a deep-clade test.

                        We'll see.

I have indeed, twice, and he responded quickly both times, which I appreciated.
However, each new expectation has not been met.

                            I am almost certainly I1a. DYS 455 = 8 and YCA-IIa,b = 19,21 are nearly infallable indicators of I1a (http://www.northwestanalysis.net/)

                              Cool.

Is that Nordtvedt's I1a-AS (Anglo-Saxon) or do you know?

Did you order the deep-SNP test to get more detail or simply to confirm your haplogroup?

Myself...I did the snp test to find out if there's any more to know?

I have an uncommon marker and I wondered if it might point to a sub-group from R1B1?
