  • If it makes you guys feel any better, I just ordered kits for my brother and maternal grandfather, so I probably won't have their results back until early July. If you think waiting for one test is bad, try waiting for two!!

The exact sequence is B-E-E-R Hmmm.... you know, that does explain a few things, doesn't it!?
Is it true that if you drink a lot of beer your y-dna gets assigned to a hoplogroup rather than a haplogroup?

Batch 147's D-Day draws nearer and nearer!
I hope we get our results before Hollywood is allowed to insult our intelligence with The DaVinci Code.

Shame on you for saying such things!

Once you get your results you'll be dressing up like Indiana Jones and traveling to southern Russia to find out if the Ossetians really are your relatives.

          C'mon 147!

          • A couple matches in Uygur (Central Asian origin) has me wondering?
I don't know what it means to an R1B1

A couple matches near the Caucases. (A couple of Aurthur's Boys?)

A higher percent of matches in France Scotland/England, Ireland, and Italy.

I'm not sure what it means to be R1b1 either.

I don't even know my own haplogroup yet.

Your Central Asian matches are interesting. I can think of all sorts of possible explanations, but there is no reason to select one over another.

Have you checked out the maps here?

I think they give a pretty good overview. I think of those circles as the genetic mix of an area. None of us are purely one thing or another.

Deep-subclade, mtDNA full sequence and test all your relatives. And by then, FTDNA will probably have announced more Y markers and you'll have to upgrade again.

If only the prices were lower so we could actually afford all these tests!

Nice map stevo...it does show R1B N/E of India. That red piece of R1B pie looks equal to "O" for population size for that area. ....UYGURS

(I doubt Ghengis Khan was R1B1..according to this site. http://www.isogg.org/famousdna.htm)

                  aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Elise, I'm goint to savour these new results for a while when i get them.

Evidently the Uygurs have a high proportion of R1b, which would explain your matches out that way.

I hadn't noticed that before. That is pretty amazing. I'm going to have to do some reading on the Uygurs.

How'd they get to have so much R1b?

Today one can still see Uyghurs with light-coloured skin and hair.
                      Interesting stuff.

Go to that Wikipedia article and click on the photo of the Uygurs to the right at the top. They're a nice-looking people. Of course, they generally don't pick ugly people to appear in articles like that.

I think it is fairly easy to detect the European element in the appearance of the Uygurs.

I think you might be onto something.

This also lends weight to my argument that R = Indo-European. Mostly R1a in the East, and mostly R1b in the West.

                        • Takla Makam Desert mummies

Textiles also were a major topic. Some of the weaving in the mummies' garments has been described as diagonal twill, very similar to a type found in Europe before 500 B.C.

Hey! Your last few posts so fascinated me I started a thread over in the Genographic Project section of this forum entitled *Poof* You're a Uyghur!.

Could you maybe post your links to those articles about the Takla Makan mummies over there?

I'm going to have to go to the library and find something on the Uyghurs and how they got to be who they are.
