  • so-sorry Grass Hopper Mr G. Khan was quite different from me.

Hey..how about a story i read on the net where some Scythians in ships sailed up the Irish Sea. They asked to land, and live in Northern Ireland, but were told Ireland didn't have enough room. They were told they could reside in the land to the east (Scotland).

And so the Scythians went into Scotland where they lived and were called the Pics. In time they were squished between the Norse, the Irish and the Romans.

Scythians were known for their body Tattoos. I believe the Scythians were originally from the Russian Steppe area. They supposedly rode out of the east like the Mongols, but much ealier in time 700 BP or so?.

      • Well, my dad's 37-59 in batch 145 is not up yet so here I am staring at batch 147 again. I hope the 12 markers in batch 147 are about to be released. We have one of those 'everyone and their 5th cousin' is related to maleA and I have tried and tried to explain haplogroups and haplotypes and mutations to them to show them we can't ALL be related to maleA, and the 12 marker test in 147 will help back me up.... a bit... 12 markers' worth of backing up anyway.

        • 12 markers should point you to a haplo group. Maybe even a really good one like R1B1 ?

          c'mon 147

Yeah, I guess anything is possible . . . but not everything is likely.

I do wonder how an R1b1 guy got to be a Chinese Muslim, though . . .

Didn't the Scythians speak an Iranian language?

I am looking forward to those first 12 markers myself, although I have 37 of them coming.

It will be exciting just to see those initial results.

Well, I'm not going to tell any of them too much, because the two kits that have tested out to 37 markers already, that I want the 12 marker to match that is now in batch 147, they have about 200 12 marker matches LOL. A VERY common 12 marker haplotype in R1b. I'm hoping this 147'er will expand his markers out to 37 very soon, but meanwhile if he matches the other two, maybe someone will start to pay attention. The other two don't have any other matches at 37 except for each other.

So, based on a sample size of one, has everybody else (who has results) gotten their results first thing in the morning? Did I just see the results of some tech or webbie who did an all nighter and gave me my results just before the next shift started?
I guess what I'm asking is, should I keep checking my page every hour?
                  steve
What do you mean, check it every hour?? Aren't you glued to your chair like I am, ALWAYS checking?? Seriously though, or not. I got results on a Saturday evening once. It was dated and timed right, so I'm not sure if it was a hiccup by my ISP or not. So, we aren't even safe on the weekends.

                  • Can I be part of the batch 147 alumni even though I'm in batch 149 (by virtue of posting here)?

There's like... NOTHING ... going on over there! All the fun is over here.

                      It's okay with me.

Whatever genetic material causes people to post frequently is something I think we 147ers share.

I hope we all get our results soon

                      C'mon 147 . . . and 149!

                      • Another silly progress measure!

Has anybody else started looking at how many people are in each of the databases on the home page? I can click on that between clicking on my personal page. About 70 or so new mtdna results have gone in since I decided it was my turn (Remember, I'm not really due according to ftdna until 5/10).

How about the Y-DNA database? Did you notice any change in that?

(Now Jim will come on and tell us to calm down. )

                          • yes I think we need a Water-cooler thread also.

This site says the Scythians may have come from the borders of China.

                            Maybe these were ancestors?
There were some Caucasians living in cities near the Takla Makam Desert in N/W China. http://www.deathonline.net/disposal/...n/tianchen.cfm

                              • Aw, c'mon Mr Denning, smile a little! We're trying to have a little fun here! You know, if it wasn't for us.... there'd BE no batch info! HeHeHe Besides that, I'm a proud Batch 147 member and loving it stopping by here!

The only serious issue for me is I'd like to see a more detailed FAQ put up on FTDNA so everyone will have a better understanding of the process. Anyone second that opinion?
