Yeah! Finally received the results of my fathers DeepSNP-E3b from this batch.

This past Monday he turned 88 years old. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to be able to combine my geneaology papertrail and his DNA testing.

Hope everyone else is as lucky!

That is good news! I'm still waiting for the troubled markers P66 and M37 for the R1b1c Deep SNP. Might take a while...

I agree!

ISOGG explains their criteria for including SNPs on their tree:

There's no mention of requiring publication. So the ISOGG tree will probably always be up-to-date with new discoveries, but that doesn't necessarily mean every lab can or will be able to test for those SNPs yet.

I believe I read a while back that EA would not publish the primers needed to test for these new SNPs until they recouped their research costs.

So the issue here is not that FTDNA doesn't *want* to test for these SNPs. They just don't have the information needed to do so yet, and they won't until EA publishes the primers.

I agree, it is probably too new, too early and not too much documentation yet. They might offer the service after it is properly documented and published by peer review journals.

Yet ISOGG has added them to their Y-Haplogroup R Tree.

Latest news on Deep SNPs

Here's a message I received today:

"Hello,

Over the past several months we have received a few thousand orders for our DEEP SNP tests. While the majority of the results were delivered, far too many customers have not received completed results. We would like to give you an update so you can understand the reason for the technical delay with your sample:

After processing your test a few times we’ve encountered difficulty with several SNP’s in the panel and are revalidating them before we run your sample again. These SNP's were validated in our experimental panel, but in the production panels 1 to 3 SNP’s per panel have worked only sporadically while the remainder of the SNP’s in the panels have worked well. We have run each panel 3 times and, while we would prefer to have complete results available for everyone, we have posted in the Haplogroup section of your personal page what partial results we were able to obtain. The partials show which SNP’s your sample was positive ( + ) or negative ( - ) for within your Deep SNP Panel. For nearly everyone most SNPs have performed well, but the test is not considered complete until every SNP has been run. In most cases participants will be negative for these SNP’s, but we will still run them in order to determine and verify the result.

We are currently revalidating each of these problematic SNP's and will rerun your sample as soon as the revalidation is complete. We expect the process of revalidation to take 3 weeks, so if the first revalidation attempt is successful in about 5 weeks the remaining markers will be rerun and posted.

In the meantime, we will work with our IT to make changes to the Pending Results page so that in addition to reflecting which SNP’s have been successfully completed for your sample, it will display which SNP’s have not yet produced a clear result and are in the process of revalidation. If your personal page does not yet show a partial result, either your sample failed to produce a result for all portions of the test or the partial result will arrive within the next 10-14 days. With this, you will have a complete and precise picture of your test at this stage. Implementing this feature will be a priority project for our software folks next week, but we don't expect it will be online until the week following.

In the words of one of our customers who sent us a very nice e-mail today, "it isn't easy to be at the forefront of science..."

Still waiting ... for batch 144 for DeepSNP-E3b (53 days late from posted expected date) and also batch 148 for mtDNA & upgrade to 67 markers (25 days late from posted expected date). Maybe there's hope as I see some of the later batches getting their results.

"Hello Dan,

The news is still the same for the Deep Clade R1b test—ask me again in a couple of weeks and I’ll let you know if the lab was able to successfully calibrate and verify M37 and P66 (we want to make sure they are working properly before we start running everyone for them). We’ve already received about a third of the results for batch 146 on the upgrades to 67 markers. It’s a very large batch but we expect to receive the remainder during this week.

Here's the lates I received by e-mail:

We’ll be changing these dates over the next week. We’re having a lot of trouble getting M37 and P66 to work properly, so we don’t have a firm date by which we expect the results to arrive; first we are attempting several different methods to get these two SNPs to work, and once we have them working we’ll run everyone for them.
