i am new to this. what's y-hap backbone?

I am fairly new to this too but they had to do a backbone test with mine as well. From what I understand FTDNA couldn't determine my haplogroup with my y-dna12 results so did the Y-HAP Backbone R-M269 SNP test, which was positive, to determine my haplogroup. That is the best I understand it. Maybe someone else can chime in with a more informed answer.
