More confused than before!

My report says
Haplogroup - V

HVR1 differences from CRS
indicating that I have no mutations from CRS. This is possible? I thought that CRS was in a different group and that the mutations made it happen.

As I mentioned in the other thread, FTDNA has SNPs that they test in order to confirm which haplogroup you are in.

They just don't make this fact obvious to us customers.

As rucksack was saying, HVR1 is only one part of the mtdna. The most important mutations to distinguish certain haplogroups are elsewhere on the mtdna. FTDNA does test a selected number of them to determine the haplogroups.

I believe that for haplogroup V they test position 4580. This is the mutation that distinguishes you from CRS, which, as you say, belongs to haplogroup H (a cousin of V).

So, yes, it is possible to be the same as CRS on HVR1 an yet belong to a different (though close) haplogroup. I am not an expert on V, so I am not sure how frequent it is to be in V and have no HVR1 mutations. Most V have a mutation at 16298.
