Using mtdna community who do i list as my most distant maternal ancestor (1) The most distant of all my maternal ancestors or (2) The most distant of my mother's mother's mother etc

The transmission of mtDNA is solely from mother to children (sons and daughters) and then from her daughters to their children. The "most distant maternal ancestor" would be along the line mother<maternal grandmother<maternal grandmother's mother, etc. It's not just any woman on the maternal side ancestry, but that specific line.
