Different mtDNA results from FTDNA and other tests

I recently received FMS results that gave my haplogroup as H2a2a1. I previously received results from 23andMe and National Geographic Geno 2.0 (transferred to FTDNA) that showed U4c1a. I ran the FASTA file through James Lick's utility and that also returned U4c1a.

I contacted FTDNA about the difference and received this reply:

"The mtDNA haplogroup designations will differ in our database as we are using a different mtDNA phylogeny. However, we are working on providing more specificity and refinement in the new (sic) future."

I asked for details on the phylogeny used as well as for the defining mutations. While waiting I'd appreciate any thoughts that you might have on these results.

Thanks,

Jim

This is not just a matter of the phylogenetic tree version. It sounds like your FMS results haven't actually been integrated into your web page so you are getting the reference sequence subclade of H2a2a1 instead of your personal results.

Thanks, Ann--I suspected that might be the case. I'll email them again.
