Unhappy My Origins vs My Parents Origin

West & Central Europe 53%
British Isles 19%
Scandanavian. 11%
Southeast Europe. 11%

East Europe. 98%

East Europe. 52%
British. Isles. 30%
Southeast Europe. 13%

If 50% of my DNA comes from my dad and 50% from my mom, why am I showing a higher percentage of British Isles than my dad and no Western Europe?

There's really not enough difference between Western Europe and British DNA for anyone to tell the difference. https://www.theguardian.com/science/...ancestry#img-2

Your results look better than mine. My mother got less than 2% Sephardic, my father got zero, and I got 14%.

Don't take DNA tests seriously as far as ethnicity goes. The best way to learn that is through years of painstaking work on your family tree using primary sources. Your list of matches is more important.

Thanks for referring me to that article from the
guardian about 30% of whites in Britain having German DNA. My grandfather was born in Germany.

I've tested my mother at 3 DNA companies and her British component is too high at every one. This company gives my mother 54%. (Ancestry gives her 36% Great Britain and 17% Ireland/Scotland/Wales, which comes to the same thing. 23andMe has 37.8)

3 of her 4 grandparents were either born in France or Germany themselves or their parents were. Some branches I have traced back to the 1600s and earlier. I haven't found a British ancestor yet in any of the towns in France and Germany where her ancestors lived.

Even her one grandparent of Colonial American descent had a few ancestors from France and the Netherlands.

I would say she is about 20-22% British Isles. All the companies seem to be assigning a more or less large share Mom's French and German DNA to the British Isles, But if the British have 70% French and German DNA, there's really no way to tell British from French and German.

However, FTDNA gives Mom 13% East Europe and 8% Southeast Europe. The other 2 companies give her zero, and I would say they are right, unless you are referring to thousands and tens of thousands of years ago.

I wouldn't put too much weight in the ethnicity estimates and the "differences" seen between you and your parents. I would pay more attention to your matches. Are your parents in your matches list?
