    R1b1b2a1a2f?

A relative uploaded a kit from Ancestry to Promethease and it says this:

R-L21 Y chromosome paternal ancestry positive for rs11799226(G) (L21) + tested Haplogroup R (Y-DNA) Gs213 and are therefore part of the haplogroup defined by these SNPs ((R1b1b2a1a2f w/ the latest ISOGG tree) or a subhaplogroup User:Cariaso and User:Meightysix are members of this Haplogroup Y (Y-DNA)

So are they saying that he is R1b1b2a1a2f?

And the Y-67 kit I ordered for a male relative who should be the same arrived today too.

You can see ISOGG's latest tree at https://isogg.org/tree/ISOGG_HapgrpR.html

It does not include R1b1b2a1a2f. It stops with R1b1b2a. These are to old long hand SNP name. ISOGG gives the short hand name for this Haplogroup as PH1578.

    ISOGG shows L21 as R1b1a1a2a1a2c1.

I have no idea which ISOGG tree they were looking at. The current tree is dated 14 January 2018.

      The 2010 ISOGG tree has R1b1b2a1a2f as L21. https://isogg.org/tree/2010/ISOGG_HapgrpR10.html

rs11799226 is the id for position 13542548 which is where the mutation for L21 is located.

There is a page at SNPedia that has that information.

It uses the 2010 ISOGG tree because that is the tree that 23andme used for a very long time.

          Is it this haplogroup?

It does seem to be a fairly common group.

Yes, L21 is a Haplogroup and yes it is a large one. If you want a more down stream Haplogroup you need additional SNP testing.

The Y-DNA67 test will give you STRs, not SNPs which are used to determine Haplogroup. FTDNA will predict a Haplogroup, most likely R-M269. R-L21 is a subgroup of R-M269.

For a more down stream Haplogroup you'll need to order SNP packs or Big Y.
