Question CDYa and CDYb

In the surname group I manage we have 24 men with Y-111 and have identified a unique difference at Y-GGAAT-1B07 (FTDNA marker #92) with 15 men having 11 and 9 having 12. We have enough solid paper pedigrees to associate these two groups with ancestors named Edward and Joseph Hathcock, who had property near each other on the NC-VA border in the early 1700s. However, within each of these two groups we have an apparent paradox with regard to the CDY alleles. The consensus CDY values for our group are 36-36 but in each group there are two with 35-36. I think the answer here is that there are two different CDY alleles but the analytical process being used cannot tell them apart. So if you could distinguish the different CDYs it might be that the two in the first group are 35-36 and the two in the second group are 36-35. Does that make sense?
