    Difference Haplogroup for siblings

My brother's Haplogroup is U, while mine is U2. I have one more marker than he and it's 16051G. How does this happen? I am younger than he.

    Testing Level

    Hello,

At what level have you each tested, and is it at FTDNA for both of you?

We both tested with Family Tree Dna and mt full sequence. I guess that's what you mean. I'm new to this.

My brother had his tested years ago and I just had mine. I'm new on this forum and don't know too much.

The older MtDNA tests were only a subset of the Full MtDNA. As Rebekah stated you need to state the exact name of the MtDNA tests that were taken. Most likely the older test only tested the mutation for U and not for U2.

Not sure what you mean by full name of test. We both had HVR1 and HVR2 with FTDNA. He tested U and at that time there were other folks with U2 that matched him in all but the 16051G, which I have. I just got my results. That is our only difference.

Please post all the MtDNA products ordered from the order history from the two different myFTDNA pages.

              For example mine has:
              Order History

              Product Ordered
              mtFullSequence 7/18/2011

The exact name of the test in my case is mtFullSequence.

Both are mtDNAplus which are not the complete mtDNA only a subset. I'm not sure that name is exact same test considering the difference is 8 years. It's also possible U2 marker was inconclusive on the older test.

Hopeful Rebekah knows or can check with FTDNA to answer your question. if not you can call FTDNA support and they will be able give you a definite answer.

I have a couple of daughters and two granddaughters who will be tested. So, it will be interesting to see theirs.

If I read correctly, rs117565943 [mt Position 16051] was first registered/entered in 2009.

Back when he was first tested, his Haplogroup was U*, which was later changed to U. There were some matches that I am now matched with, but he had the one difference was this same marker. When I inquired at that time, I was told that he probably had a back mutation. So, when I decided to go ahead and have my dna tested, I was surprised to find that I had that marker.
