New Look and Features to the FTDNA Forum

It seems that most of the forums are listed as "private" to me now. Ironically, I can still get into the Admin's forum without logging in. However, I can't see the FF and most of the other forums without logging in. Is anyone else having this problem? Thanks, Pat

New Look and Features to the FTDNA Forum

Hi guys, I didn't quite know where to put this, and was surprised no one else started a thread yet. I liked seeing a section added for surname projects, and adoptees. I don't like the batch calender forum being closed. I always found that helpful when I had a kit testing to maybe gauge when results might post.
I noticed we have a main moderator Rebekah Canada, Hi Rebekah!
A good portion of the forum you have to be signed in to view now.
This bright blue is really pretty, but it is really hurting my eyes too! I will have to see if I can adjust the brightness and contrast on my computer.

I agree about the color. It's nice but does hurt my eyes. I just logged in and haven't had a chance to look at all of the changes. I will also be disappointed if the batch calendar forum is truly gone.

Yes, me too, plus I'm now seeing a strange shade of blue!

Looks like the notorious FTDNA IT department has struck again.

Please tone down the color just a bit or issue protective goggles.

Don't like the new forum, especially the blue color!

I would have thought it would be in ftdna interests to keep the family finder forum public, great way of promoting a product and for potentially interested customers to read up on it.

I suspect there will be less participation, now that most of the forum is private. We'll see.

But the question is: deliberate act or an error?

Unfortunately, it's typical of FTDNA to provide no information about this change before or at the time of making it.

                      Hello,

The changes are deliberate. I will be making a few more changes today as I figure out vBulletin's rather esoteric settings. The Family Tree DNA designer likes bright blue; I am sure we will all come to love it too.

Yes, the Batch calender is closed. From the time that all lab work was moved to the Genomic Research Center here in Houston, the weekly batches have been more an accounting tool than anything else. At this point, they have nothing to do with the order in which tests are processed once the request is sent to the lab. Family Tree DNA is working on a better system for showing actual lab processes.

Please feel free to send your thoughts to me privately. Constructive positive feedback is always welcome. Public ranting will be moderated.

You will find that in the future most changes at FTDNA will be announced here. I am working on some other venues for more extensive and accessible communications.

Well, that's a welcome change of direction I must say.

Color can set mood. This shade of blue is harsh and unsettling.

The FTDNA designer owes his/her job to the customers and should act accordingly. Liking or not liking the blue as a color preference is not the point. It's hurting my eyes, and as evidenced by the other remarks, I am not alone. Please change the color scheme back to what it was, or something else less tiring on the eyes.

                              Vinnie,

Look at the bottom left of the forum. There is a menu to change the template. You might like the one that says Family Tree DNA Forum vBulletin V3 Style. It will take you right back to the 2008 look. :-)
