Transfer from 3rd Party

I had a test done through 23andme. When looking up the info on this site, it states that it will accept files from 3rd parties. The site notes that only files from 23andme that are either v3 or v4 can be accepted. When I downloaded my file from 23andme, it's a v5. Can that be accepted yet by FamilyTreeDNA?

No and hopefully never will (the newer AncestryDNA kits are polluting the database enough).

Please do us all a favor (including yourself) and just take the Family Finder test. You will get better comparisons and more distant common ancestors.

The reason that 23andMe v. 5 files cannot be accepted is because they do not share enough markers with FTDNA's Family Finder to give any level of reliable matches. Nothing can change that, therefore FTDNA is not able to accept v. 5 results. You can see comparisons of how the various companies compare to each other in the amount of autosomal SNPs at ISOGG's Autosomal SNP comparison chart.

Your v. 5 file can be uploaded to GEDmatch.com's Genesis, however.

If you want to get a good match list at FTDNA, as georgian1950 said, you should take the Family Finder test.
