Wny not allow a link to an external GEDCOM?

Many Family Finder customers are dedicated genealogists who have posted their data all over the internet, including more than one genetic genealogy site. It is an unnecessary nuisance to maintain a GEDCOM or other pedigree information on multiple web sites. For those of us who have a public family tree, why not allow us to supply a link to it, in place of uploading a GEDCOM file? If all the genetic genealogy sites did this, we would only have to maintain one tree on the internet. It would be the responsibility of the customer to supply a correct link to a tree that is truly public.

You can paste an url or a message in the field "about me" in your account settings. Very few people write anything in this field, possibly because it is a bit tricky to find?

That's true, but I would rather have the option of adding such a link on the page where we would otherwise upload a GEDCOM file. Then, the pedigree icon on the match's profile should be green, and when you click on it, a message like "click here to go to this person's genealogy web site" should appear, instead of a pedigree chart.
