Y-12 Question

Is it worth taking a Y-12 test? I'm not interested in matches, I just wanna know my haplogroup.
The problem is I was given to know it can be inconclusive.

Thanks.

I guess it's worth it if you haven't tested at 23andMe, or someplace else that gives the Y-haplogroup. It would be good if you don't want to spend a lot, and will be satisfied with a basic predicted haplogroup.

Sometimes, if FTDNA can't predict your haplogroup with confidence, they will run what is called a "backbone" test, which would actually test further in order to give you a result. Information about that is in the FTDNA Learning Center, "What is the SNP Assurance Program? What is a backbone test?" page.

If you wanted to know your sub-haplogroup further down the Y-tree, you'd need to do some SNP testing.
