Hi all,
The new Build 3 of the PhyloTree appeared on March 1. I note that it adds 16 new K subclades. Thirteen of those are "newly proposed" which means they were designated by the maintainer of the PhyloTree, Dr. van Oven. Those match pretty well with the new subclades I'm proposing for the massive new K tree we are preparing. (The first public presentation of that new tree by Dr. Behar and I will be at the FTDNA Administrators Conference in Houston weekend after next.) The differences are mostly in the ordering of the subclades. Easily fixed, but don't get attached to any new designations yet. And don't expect FTDNA to use these; they will probably wait until our new K tree is published - later this year, I hope.
One new subclade is for Otzi the Iceman, shown as K1o (with an umlaut). Not sure if that's a proper designation.
The other two are K1a10 and K1a11 from my paper in the Fall 2007 issue of the Journal of Genetic Genealogy. Nice to see those in print somewhere else.
The PhyloTree is based on 5712 full mtDNA sequences in the federal GenBank. As of now, 65 of the K sequences were submitted by FTDNA customers, 64 from the K Project. Of those, 32 are specifically listed on the Phylotree. Note that each subclade only lists two sequences, so it will never show everybody's GenBank accession number. However, as the tree grows new subclades, many more of those will come from FTDNA.
To see the new PhyloTree, go to http://www.phylotree.org/ You will have to download the file and unzip it. If you have trouble with that, there is a PDF version at http://www.rodneyjewett.com/PhyloTre...0Build%203.pdf
Let me know if you have any questions.
