Difference Between MyOrigins Results and Ancestral Origins Results

Can someone please explain the difference between these two to me? In MyOrigins results for my father-in-law, I am told that his family's origins are British, but for Ancestral Origins, the results are German. Why the difference?

Ancestral Origins are countries that are self-reported by your matches (in other words, the match's known ancestral origin, as far as the match knows from his/her family history, paper records, etc.).

MyOrigins shows regions based on how your DNA matches reference populations.

In addition to what KATM stated, myOrigins is based solely on the autosomal DNA results. You can read about the myOrigins methodology at https://www.familytreedna.com/learn/...s-methodology/ and the updated names for the clusters since that white paper was released at https://www.familytreedna.com/learn/...mes-myorigins/

The Ancestral Origins pages are based solely based on the Y-DNA and mtDNA matches.

Where are my Irish/Scottish roots?

My father's family is from Ireland & Scotland. I have docs going back to 1800's verifying this area, yet My Origins shows nothing from there.Instead it shows 28% history from Scandinavia.

Mom's family is from Germany and France so I expect about 50% to be from there. My Origins shows 64%.

Can someone explain this to me?

Just a guess, but the word 'origin' is indicative of 'original'. My guess is your Scottish and Irish ancestors may have come from a line of Scandinavian Vikings that inhabited the British Isles. My paternal DNA is Scandinavian but I believe my paternal ancestor to first arrive in North America was most likely from England or Ireland.

I'm assuming My Origins is looking at your predicted ancient DNA.

My previous results looked more detailed
previously I was:
43% West & Central Europe
34% British Isles
18% Southern Europe
5% Middle Eastern
and now:
I am only 100% West & Central Europe & 0% anywhere else it 's a joke???? !!!
How comes?
