Detecting maternal vs. paternal relatives in map view

Hi there. I am looking at the map of my relatives. You can click on the buttons to determine if your relatives plotted on the map are maternal or paternal relatives. How would it know this if neither one of my parents have been tested here? Thanks.

You're talking about the myOrigins map, correct? Assuming so...

The pins simply show where your matches' direct maternal (mother's mother's mother, etc) and direct paternal (father's father's father, etc) lines were from.

They don't indicate whether these people are related on your maternal or paternal side.
