YSEARCH and PHISHING

I recently received an email from a stranger who claimed that we matched on Y Search. He sent his phone number and his email address. I checked the phone number out and it turned out that some people had fallen prey to the person associated with this number.

So please be careful when you do receive a response from a "fellow" Y Searcher!

Exclamation

Thank you Zaru for this very important warning.

The same advice applies to mitosearch and the Kerchner logs.

That's great i just found another possible match at Y search. I tried to make contact and got a error message 8004020f. I wonder if its got something to do with this phishing none since . I contacted Y-search to see if they could help me with the connection no word yet from them. I figured that the match had a different surname like all my other matches and had only show those who have the same last name checked off. I guess it best if FTDNA doesn't tell you that you have a match, and this person saying they tested at FTDNA and you are a possible match, its best to be careful. Thanks for the warning

Did they tell you how to resolve the 8004020f error when contacting a match?

Ysearch was created years ago by FTDNA. The people who wrote it are no longer with FTDNA and FTDNA no longer supports it. All they tell you today is that it is no longer support.

Try the method that was given in your other post about this problem.

If the site has been hacked and the info is being used for phishing and FTDNA no longer supports the site, I'd say they should take it down completely.
