FF kit number

Is it possible to search for the family finder kit number of a Y-DNA match?

Only if they typed their kit number somewhere online and you happened to know what it is for some reason. Other than that, there is no way you can look for it. Matches are not shown the actual kit numbers and group projects only list kit numbers for people who have joined them and have taken a Y-DNA or mtDNA test.

I assume you mean Gedmatch kit number. I can't think of any other application for an autosomal kit number.

But your answer is: Not any more. They switched to a randomized key over at Gedmatch a while ago to thwart the very scenario you describe.

Still, if the account owner is something of a Chatty Kathy, and left unnecessarily specific comments in forum postings or what not, and they or a close relative with a Gedmatch account left published a corresponding pedigree (anywhere, really, not just Gedmatch), and are members of a public Y DNA project, it's possible to make a reasonable correlation.

Really, Gedmatch is the only context I can imagine your question being applicable.

Thank you. That's what I was afraid of. So I'd have to contact the ydna match and ask for it...correct?

But why would you need a kit number? Is it for what Frederator mentions about gedmatch?

You can see the name of your FF match. If that person does have a Y-DNA test and they are included in your Y-DNA match list the match will have the same name.

As indicated above we need additional information to provide an accurate reply.
