2nd cousins negative in HVR2

Hi!

I'm a newbie, I hope someone can explain this to me. My grandad and his 2nd cousin (their mothers were 1st cousins, grandma's were sisters), recently took the mtplus test. I thought results should be exactly the same, regarding to the few generations between them, but they only match at HVR1.

How's that possible? Can a little variation in just one generation make somebody HVR2 not coincident?

Many thanks and excuse me for my english.

Yes, mutations have to happen sometime, and there have been six chances for it to happen with second cousins. What is the specific difference you see if you compare their mutation lists? One very common difference occurs at a "hot spot": for instance, one person may have 309.1C and the other person may have 309.1C and 309.2C.

Hi Ann!

Thank you for your answer. The thing is that they seem to have same numbers (same in certificates, same in RSRS and rCRS).

Then you'll need to contact FTNA customer support for an explanation.
