Thanks, Mr W....

I see what they say, but the test is: if a man does the BigY-500 first, can I be absolutely certain that if he JOINS my project, his STRS will display as if he had taken 111?

The logical answer is...

Are you perhaps asking about phasing? You will need atDNA from at least one parent to hope to separate shares from each parent. That is how I interpret your question.

Missing the point...

This echoes my findings on my kit at YFull. The terminal SNP and most additional STRs from FTDNA have no counterparts on the ISOGG tree, so my terminal SNP at YFull and additional STRs have almost no...

Please comment - SNP vs STR

Below is a segment from a book I am preparing about my one-name study. I would be interested in any comments you might have regarding these ideas:

If SNP testing could result in projects where...

Big Y500

For those of us who have paid for 111 and Big Y in the past, the new offering of Big Y500 seems to address an issue that we did not get to take advantage of: seeing the ~400 more STRs that genomic...

Out standing in my field? In FTDNA hands now

I received no indication that this is seen by anyone else, so I sum up the problem: FTDNA set me up with a block of 10 kit numbers for Ancestry xfers, since Ancestry abandoned yDNA and many of the...

How altruistic are you feeling?

Like he (Armando) said, the SNP tests do not so much supplement your surname Y test as it does help geneticists posit subclades. Bringing down a subclade might one day bring a SNP into historical...
