I can only add an experience to this thread.
I have about 50 men in my overall project, but not all tested at FTDNA. We have YDNA evidence of two patrilines because about 15 are haplo I-P37.2 and 15...

Haplo Projects

I make it a requirement on my Project Page that all YDNA-bearing members of my YDNA site who are in the focus surname variants (not the "members of interest") also join a Haplo Project, and that I...

How do I fix it?

The number code is what identifies a DNA account. If you have full access to a kit page, you can "Change Personal Information" to the corrected name and address. It will not happen immediately on the...

I have never seen one

The trees for SNPs along the Y line do not match across services: ISOGG, FTDNA, Yfull have trees, but all such trees are somewhat experimental. I have never received or seen any explanation on FTDNA...

Theory tested!

We requested an "upgrade" to Y results from a Family Finder swab and it was batched. So an inexpensive Family Finder does represent an entry-level sample that can be upgraded all the way to Y-111...

Same here about relateds in YDNA Projects

I also have a "Families of Interest" group in my YDNA Project, mainly for maternal "paper" connections, but this is mainly to offer help by being able to see their results and suggest other projects....

Always remember...

You are comparing your results only to other men who have tested. Surname use is an artificial distinction, not a genetic inheritance. Had I seen this in time, I would have recommended the 111 test...

In other words....

In simplest terms, if two 67 matches, regardless of surname, each expand their results to 111, they should not diverge from matching if they share a common ancestor within historical genealogical...

On the subject of LOGIN/LOGOUT

On this subject, why is there no "remember me" function at login. As an admin, I have to navigate through the weirdness of "impersonation" and numerous browser tabs and occasionally just have to...

Off on a tangent here.

Yes, I received a link to the new, better and more secure Findagrave today. I thought it was just fine as it was.

I think it is wonderful resource to find your...

YSearch was once helpful...

Just as GEDMatch is still helpful. Unfortunately, there is a problem with changing standards by the labs for DYS, and users could easily post multiple "versions" of results, so that there is a false...

It's catching...

Ancestry is beta'ing the "new look" for Find A Grave.

Translation: now you can more easily dredge the half-baked (or unbaked) "research" that shows as F A G Edits and Family Links as if it was...

Standard disclaimer that FTDNA should emphasize

I issue a disclaimer to my potential project members: what your learn from DNA cannot be unlearned, and although mistakes are possible, you may well get results that will turn your life upside down....

Since I started this topic...Chrome has worked best for me

I have not experienced the login problems, but I encounter the "Houston" message from time to time.
I use Chrome and Windows 10 Pro on my laptop, and Chrome and Win 7 64 Pro on desktop, but a...

Don't count on an explanation

Each SNP testing service applies its own nomenclature, and this SNP is FTDNA's estimate of your most "recent" positive. YFull may apply another one. This is one of the most exasperating aspects of...

Anderly, I feel your pain

I have a surname YDNA Project with two lines of "I" men, but also with mostly ones and twos with "R," including four cousins. It is difficult for me to advise those testers/sponsors because 1) the...

Why are they here? What do they want?

As a project admin, I require all sampler/members to remain "public", and to allow me to join them to other projects as I deem apprpriate. But if a sponsor/donor insists on privacy, I can decide on...

Ancestry & Ftdna

It came to my attention when Ancestry began a program of disloyalty to customers and providers: it is not a genealogy site, but a site to market itself to potential buyers.
Access to records is...

Addendum

Men can be grouped into separate Haplogroups. I group by the oldest ancestor if known or suspected, or the region where the family is first found if this is unclear. This can be confusing if you do...

Flawed marketing tools

Generation calculators and "origin" estimates are marketing tools that are essentially misleading. Read the molecular biology journals where you will see that there is little agreement. Do we compare...

I have to disagree with you, Jim

A member might use the coupons from the e-mails, but unless they log in, they will be issued a new kit number if they are buying a different product rather than an upgrade. This will continue to...
