Maternal Lineages (mtDNA)

Collapse

Direct maternal lineages can be traced with a mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) test. Children, both male and female, inherit their mtDNA from their mothers. MtDNA testing can be used as evidence in genealogy and for personal ethnic ancestry. It is commonly used in studies to show migrations of population groups across time and geography.
